the town of Manning, the county seat of
Clarendon County since 1855. Clarendon
County was named for the Earl of Clarendon,
one of the Eight Lords Proprietors of
England, to whom Carolina was given as
a land grant. Clarendon County was formed
in 1785 and has been prominent in the
history of our nation, producing five
South Carolina governors and many prominent
